Pastor Kevin's Weekly Devotion

January 27, 2012

Born in northeastern England in the early 8th century, Alcuin became a scholar and priest who played a key role in the court of Charlemagne.  A contemporary of his called him "the most learned man anywhere to be found."

He wrote this prayer 1200 years ago, and yet, to me, it remains moving and relevant.

Eternal Light, shine into our hearts.
Eternal Goodness, deliver us from evil.
Eternal Power, be our support.
Eternal Wisdom, scatter the darkness of our ignorance.
Eternal Pity, have mercy on us.
That will all our heart and mind and soul and strength
       we may seek your face
       and be brought by your infinite mercy to your holy presence;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen

Grace to you and peace,

              Kevin
